Functionalised Fullerenes

These images show structures developed in Roger Taylor's research group in the Fullerene Science Centre at Sussex University, where C60 molecules have new functional groups attached to them, for example bonding additional flourine atoms, or methyl groups onto the ball. This radically changes the properties of the C60, such as solubility.

The images were generated from structures produced with Cerius2, filtered and fed through povray. Click on an image to see an enlargement.
